Charlie Haden ‎– The Best Of Quartet West CD

2007 compilation pulled from Haden and his quartet's 20+ year career. Quartet West has been together since 1985, performing in LA and then recording their first album Charlie Haden Quartet West in 1986. In addition to the legendary bassist Haden, the group consisted of Ernie Watts on tenor saxophone, Alan Broadbent on piano and the great Billy Higgins on drums,Charlie's rhythm section mate in the original Ornette Coleman Quartet.

Larence Marable replaced Higgins on drums on the subsequent recordings In Angel City (1988), Haunted Heart (1991), Always Say Goodbye (1993), Now is the Hour (1995) and The Art of the Song (1999).

This album is a good summary of Quartet West in jazz history. Whenever, I listen to a Quartet West album, I am asking myself over and over again what if Charlie Haden could be one of the jazz figures in 50s and early 60s in golden jazz era.

If you have a possibility to listen one of his Quartet West albums, you can easily understand what I am talking about. Generally, his friens and he creat a great classic sound in all Quartet West albums.You know how some albums give you just what you wanted to hear just when you wanted to hear it.This is what you can find in all Quartet West albums.

There certainly is that--and it's a kind of music that's much more to my taste than it used to be--but really this is just a lovely jazz album, with sophisticated and engaging tunes, expressive and inventive solo work,a traditional approach that still acknowledges what jazz has come to sound like.

2007 yılına ait Charlie Haden ve grubu Quartet West'in 20 yılı aşkın müzikal oluşumunun en önemli eserlerini içerir bir albümle bu kez de sizlerleyiz.

Haden ve grubu 1985'te Los Angeles'ta ilk kez bir araya geldi ve ilk albümlerini 1986 yılında yayımladılar. Bas ustası Charlie Haden ile birlikte tenor saksafonda Ernie Watts, piyanoda Alan Broadbent ve davulda usta Bill Higgins' ten oluşan grubun ritim kısmı orijinal Ornette Coleman Quartet ile aynıdır.

Larence Merble davulda Higgins ile sonradan değişmiş ve  In Angel City (1988), Haunted Heart (1991), Always Say Goodbye (1993), Now is the Hour (1995) ve The Art of the Song (1999) adlı albümlerde yer almıştır.
