Thelonious Monk - Something In Blue LP

Thelonious Monk caz dünyasında gelmiş en iyi piyanistlerden biridir. Bunun yanı sıra sanatçının klasikleşmiş pek çok bestesi de vardır ki bu noktadan hareketle ne denli güçlü bir besteci olduğu görülür.

Akla gelebilecek her büyük caz üstadıyla 1940’ların sonundan sonra caz yaşamı boyunca çalışan sanatçı ardında unutulmaz albümler bırakmış olup modern cazın en önemli figürlerinden biridir.

Bugün blogta sanatçının 1971 yılında yaptığı sanat yaşamındaki son stüdyo kaydı olan Something In Blue albümünü konu edeceğim.

Ingiliz Black Lion plak firması tarafından yayımlanan albümde sanatçı bence en uyumlu çalıştığı davulcu olan diğer bir üstat Art Blakey ve basta ise Al McKibbon ile çalışmış ve ortaya çok güzel bir trio çalışması çıkmış.

Albümde güzel bir Monk solosu ve bestesi olan kısa ama çok iyi bir Blues olan Blue Sphere açılış parçası. Dinlerken virtüözün sol elle işe başlayıp sonra nasıl sağ elle olayı şekillendirdiğini hissetmek harika bir duygu. İşte solo piyano ile Blues budur dedirtiyor.

Sonrasında gelen ilk yüzdeki iki ve sonuncu  parçada harika bir trio birlikteliği gözlemlenmekte ki sanatçıya ait olmayan tek parça olan Nice Work If You Can Get It ‘te yine sanatçı solo çalmakta

İkinci yüz güzel bir Blues ballad olan Something In Blue ile açılmakta ve yine Monk burada solo olarak çalmakta, sonraki parçalarda ise trio birlikteliğinde oluşan ahenk sizi büyülüyor

Thelonious Monk is one of the best jazz pianist ever. He got also many classical compositions showing how powerful composer he is.He worked almost all important jazz musicians after the end of 40s till his death and he is one of the most important figures in jazz era Today.

I try to review his last studio album, called as Something In Blue, recording in 1971.  Album was released by British label Blue Lion and he worked in this album with Art Blakey in drums, Al McKibbon in bass and it is a great pleasure to listen this trio.

A nice & short blues composition Blue Sphere is the opening song of the album which is a solo song by Monk.Virtuoso starts with right-handed and changed to left-handed. To feel it when listening is a great pleasure.This is the blues with solo piano.

The first two and the last track on the side 1, you feel a great trio work. The only song which is not composed by Mok, is Nice Work If You Can Get It and he plays again solo in this song.

The second side is openning with a beautiful blues ballad, Something In Blue and Monk is playing solo here. In the next tracks, the union of the harmony of trio fascinates you.
