2003 yılında Amerika'da yaptığı konser sonrasınıda Charlie Haden Meksikalı besteci Jose Sabre Marroquin' ın kızı Patricia Mendes ile karşılaşır. Bayam Mendes babasının bestelerinden oluşan bir dosya kendisine verir.
Tüm besteleri dikkatle inceledikten sonra Haden bunları Gonzalo Rubalcaba' ya gösterir ve o da konuya ilgi duyunca Marraquin eserlerinden oluşan bir albüm yapmak için planlar yapmaya başlarlar. Albüm için sanatçının sekiz şarkısı ve diğer Meksikalı besteciler olan Agustin Lara ve Armando Manzanero'nun da birer şarkısı ile albüm oluşturulur.
Pek çok açıdan albüm içe işleyen ama öte yandan sade bir yapıya sahip ve bu açıdan çok iyi yorumlanan besteler ve sıkı arajmanları ile Latin müziğin tüm güzelliklerini dinleyiciye ileten bir çalışma.
Haden'in kontrbas çalışı ise aslında bir kitap dolusu söz etmeyi hakkeden bir güzellikte, zaten sanatçı yıllar içinde akustik basta eşsiz ve kendine has bir tarz yarattı. Öte yandan Rubalcaba' nın da yorumları ve düzenlemeleri harika şekilde parçalara işlenmekte tüm albüm süresince.Yaptığı şey ise basitçe duygusallık içinde boğulmadan müziğe melankoli katmak olmuş burada.

After concert in USA made in 2003, Charlie Haden was approached by Patricia Mendes, daughter of Mexican composer Jose Sabre Marroquin. She gives him a folder of her father's compositions.
After carefully looking over these compositions, Haden showed them to Gonzalo Rubalcaba to see if the latter might be interested in working with him on an entire album of Marroquin compositions. When Rubalcaba showed enthusiasm for the project, the two began to plan a recording session, which ended up with eight songs by Marroquin and one each by Mexican composers Agustin Lara and Armando Manzanero and at the end this album is appeared.
In many ways, it is a recording of profound, simplicity. A closer attending reveals subtleties of composition, arrangement, and playing that vault the proceedings out of seemingly merely generic pretty Latin music into the precincts of glorious felicity. Haden's bass playing has a lot to do with it. Charlie Haden, for years, has developed and cultivated a unique style on acoustic bass. Often concentrating on the mid to lower registers of his instrument and his own harmonic and rhythmic sophistication makes him an innovator of the order. Rubalcaba's playing and arrangements also add mightily to the mix. What's he's done is penetrate to the melancholy, wistful heart of this music without sinking into sentimentality.
